We are pleased to share that Registry Member Dale Nesbary, PhD, is now acting as Interim Executive Director at the University System of Maryland. Dale brings decades of experience in higher education leadership, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness to this dynamic role. We are proud to have supported his placement and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will make.

"Dale K. Nesbary has been named interim executive director of the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland, one of three regional centers and 12 universities comprising the USM. USMSM focuses on providing highly developed and comprehensive academic and professional development educational opportunities at the graduate and upper undergraduate level to a workforce of knowledge workers engaged in technology, teaching, management, health and other professional services."

"Dr. Nesbary has more than four decades of experience in higher education leadership and public administration. Since 2022, he’s been a consultant specializing in technology and strategic planning, and has served on the executive advisory board for CampusWorks, which partners with U.S. colleges to improve institutional effectiveness and the student experience. For 13 years, Dr. Nesbary was president of Muskegon Community College in Michigan, where he won national acclaim for academic innovation, capital development, and student success. Under his leadership, Muskegon was named Michigan’s No. 1 community college by BestColleges.com (2017) and Intelligent.com (2021) and a U.S. top 50 Best Value Community College by ValueColleges.com (2016).

With 30 programs developed during his tenure, Dr. Nesbary guided significant growth in Muskegon’s academic portfolio, and he transformed the physical campus with $21 million raised in support of a $55 million infrastructure investment. His comprehensive student success and completion agenda, based in early engagement and college readiness, lifted Muskegon’s graduation rate by 7%. Expanded partnerships with K12 school districts and with four-year colleges fortified Michigan’s P20 pipeline. And strategic investments he made 15 years ago in Early College initiatives made Muskegon a statewide leader in dual enrollment."
